What photogrammetry is
What photogrammetry is

A mapping camera captures overlapping colour frames that software turns into orthomosaics, meshes and dense point clouds. It is the right tool when the surface is visible from the air and you need colour texture with survey geometry.

Open pits, construction pads and urban roofs are the usual Australian jobs. It does not punch through canopy the way LiDAR does.

GSD and flight plan
GSD and flight plan

Ground sample distance is set by focal length, sensor size and flying height. Match GSD to the smallest feature you must measure, then plan overlap for the processing seat you already run.

We load Pilot 2 templates against the deliverable you invoice so crews are not guessing mid-mission.

Mechanical shutter and motion
Mechanical shutter and motion

Mechanical shutters reduce rolling-shutter stretch on fast corridors. Global or leaf shutters matter when the tender asks for survey-grade stills at speed.

Zenmuse P1 is the usual full-frame mechanical path on Matrice. Phase One iXM and SHARE medium-format seats cover programmes that already standardise on those sensors.

Open sky vs under canopy
Open sky vs under canopy

Photogrammetry wins when the surface is open and colour helps interpretation. Dense vegetation and thin wires leave holes imagery cannot fill honestly.

Use the LiDAR lane when the ground is hidden. Many Australian programmes fly both and merge products downstream.

Most Australian survey teams process in a photogrammetry suite they already licence. We confirm export formats against your CAD or GIS stack at handover.

Same engineers stay on support after commissioning so the first paid mapping job is not a guess.

Outcome

What you walk away with

You leave with a mapping camera matched to the aircraft, flight and processing presets for the deliverable you invoice, and Australian warranty from the same team that confirmed fitment.

Questions, answered

Choosing

P1 or a fixed Matrice 4 camera?
Matrice 4E/4T cameras are built into those aircraft. Removable mapping cameras on this page mount to Matrice 350 and 400. Pick from the airframe you fly and the GSD you must sign off.
P1, SHARE 505S or Phase One?
P1 for full-frame DJI mapping on Matrice. SHARE 505S when your processing and lens seat is already SHARE medium-format. Phase One iXM when the brief or client standard calls for that sensor class. We route from the deliverable, not the brochure headline.
LiDAR or photogrammetry?
Photogrammetry when the surface is open and you need colour texture. LiDAR when vegetation or thin features block a clean surface model.

Buying

What does a Zenmuse P1 cost in Australia?
From $11,400 AUD on this page. Lens and aircraft kit change the total. Ask for a configured quote.
Are SHARE and Phase One quote-only?
Many SHARE 5-series and Phase One packages are configured to quote. We confirm stock, lens and gimbal path before locking a kit total.
Can we review a mapping workflow?
Yes. Book a workflow review with the site type and the accuracy you need to sign off. Bring GSD and control expectations.

Compatibility

Will this fit Matrice 400?
Yes for the P1 path listed. SHARE and Phase One mounts depend on gimbal and aircraft. We confirm mount and weight before quoting.
Will this fit Matrice 350?
Selected mapping cameras yes. Product pages list fitment. We confirm against your next buy cycle before you order.

Accuracy

Do megapixels make a survey?
No. Survey accuracy needs control, a stable camera, honest GSD and a processing workflow you actually run. Camera megapixels alone do not make a survey.

Workflow

Which processing software?
Most Australian survey teams use a photogrammetry suite they already licence. We confirm export formats against your stack at handover.

Support

What warranty and support do I get?
A 12-month warranty backed by Australian Consumer Law, with support from our Melbourne team. The same engineers who matched the camera to your airframe stay on the phone.
Next step

Not sure which kit you need?

Tell us the job. survey, inspection, mapping, or scanning and we'll spec the right platform, payload, and RTK setup. No guesswork.

We usually reply within a day.
